Hi, I'm Tom. I tell stories for a living
What I do
I'm a Creative Producer, people story writer, and email course builder based in Surrey, UK - working with broadcasters, brands, charities, and educators around the world.
What connects everything I do is the same instinct: find the real story, understand who needs to hear it, and put it in front of them in a form they'll actually engage with.
Creative Production
Long and short-form documentary, factual TV, and branded content – for broadcasters like Discovery ID, Disney+, and the BBC, and brands including Abercrombie & Kent and Soho House.
Case Studies
Interview-based case studies for organisations that need to demonstrate real-world impact -- turning the experiences of customers, members, beneficiaries, employees, and volunteers into stories and structured documents that build trust and move decisions forward.
Email Courses
End-to-end ghostwriting and strategy for filmmaking and photography educators — five-day automated email sequences that grow lists, showcase expertise, and convert visitors into paying students.
“Tom was a huge asset to our team in the development stage of a online branded documentary series. He unearthed some real gems both in terms of stories and characters, diligent in his research, and organised in presenting his findings back to the team. Would highly recommend!”
My Services:
Casting & Access
I’ve cast families of murder victims, members of the Sami people, victims of a hurricane, a Psychologist magician and many others.
I’ve gained access to the Palace of Versailles, a hospital, a fishing vessel, a power station, a large fulfillment centre, factories, farms, and many other places.
Creative & Development
Across unscripted TV, digital and branded content, I’ll generate and/or shape new ideas, and I will design your pitch deck.
Research & Archive Research and Clearance
If you want complicated or intricate subjects researched and simplified, from immigration and divorce law to the industrial history of Yorkshire and rewilding in Lapland, look no further.
I also have experience in sourcing and clearing rights for archive, for on series such as ‘Caught on Camera’ (ITV) and ‘Fights, Camera, Action’ (Sky).
Working on difficult environment UK and International Shoots
Overseeing and coordinating UK and overseas shoots, managing complex logistics and permissions, and working with sensitivity across cultures and communities.
On-location work is something I enjoy. I’ve worked in places as challenging as a North Sea fishing vessel and the peaks of European mountains.
Budgeting & Financial Oversight
Creating accurate budgets, tracking spend across multiple suppliers, and balancing editorial needs with financial accountability.
Filming & Editing
Camera operating (Sony FS7) and editing (Final Cut Pro X).
Email marketing
I turn filmmakers’ and photographers’ educators’ expertise into complete, ready-to-launch five-day email courses that convert website visitors into paying students. From mapping out the lesson sequence to ghostwriting every email and the landing page that sells it, I handle everything that puts their knowledge in front of students. These automated sequences deliver valuable lessons straight into subscribers’ inboxes, grow their email list, showcase their expertise, and promote future courses - without relying on social media algorithms.
Case Studies
I interview the people whose lives your work has changed and write the case studies that turn their experience into proof. Each piece is structured around Challenge, Solution and Impact, with the specific outcomes your sales team can use, your funders can act on, and your next customer, member, or donor can trust.
“Tom’s a great and thorough researcher, he’s consistently focused and has an eye for detail.”
Why I do this
I’m curious about the world, and I enjoy learning about people’s stories. Listening is one of my strengths. “Brain in ears” is a family saying, meaning you need to put your brain in your ears, and properly listen. I’d like to think I take this advice.
My roots
My heritage spans world-class musicians, an Oscar‑nominated screenwriter and generations of farmers, underpinning a deep respect for real human stories and a belief that creativity and resilience connect audiences to brands and broadcasters alike.
Outside of work
I’ve volunteered at an archaeological dig in Cerne Abbas, Dorset, I’ve milked goats and made cheese on a remote Sardinian goat farm, I’ve taught in Papua New Guinea and Uganda, and I’ve hiked to the top of England’s tallest mountain.
My interests include culture, history, current affairs, science, nature and the environment. I have grade 8 cello and grade 5 piano, and also have professional musician parents so I understand the professional classical music world.
Frequently Asked Questions
-
Three things: I'm a Creative Producer working across branded content, documentary, and factual TV; an email course strategist and ghostwriter for film and photography tutors; and a people story writer for purpose-led brands.
-
All three, but for different clients. For production clients I develop, shoot, and deliver. For film and photography educators I strategise, structure, and ghostwrite five-day email courses. For charities and organisations I interview the people connected to your work and turn their stories into something you can publish. Not sure which you need? Start at the contact page.
-
They're less different than they look. All three are about taking something real: expertise, experience, or a human story, and shaping it into something people want to engage with. The medium changes; the approach doesn't.
-
They're separate services for separate clients, but there's nothing stopping you working with me on more than one.
-
Yes. I'm based in Surrey, UK, and work all around the world.
-
Listen, listen, and listen. I contact PR agencies, industry bodies or charities, and take their advice. They’ll know who I should contact, and often they’ll do the work in their expert field, while I can follow up another lead or look into something else.
-
Hiring a fixer or local experts as early as possible is essential. They’ll have expert local knowledge, and know the rules regarding permits and security etc.
“Whether it’s feature documentaries for theatrical distribution or broadcast commissions, Tom has always proved to be a key asset.
When casting potential contributors for ever-evolving projects and gaining access to difficult subject matters, he has the ability to adapt to the needs of these challenging productions. His creative solutions to casting briefs as well as his focused research and scheduling of shoots has proved immensely valuable to the success of our films getting made in the right manner.
He is a self-sufficient, hard worker who is remarkably thorough and able to bring a broad range of producing experience to any production he is involved with.”
